Matheny’s therapists, teachers, social workers, psychologists, nutritionists and nurses participate in the Somerset, Morris and Hunterdon County Special Child Health Services Early Intervention Programs, designed to enhance the ability of families to meet the needs of infants and toddlers who have disabilities or delays in development. Experience has shown that early detection and treatment helps children to perform at levels closer to those of their peers. A key aspect of early intervention is parental participation. Much of the treatment involves training family members to work with their children when the healthcare professionals are not there.
Matheny is currently providing early intervention services to more than 100 families. Parents or pediatricians who are interested in more information should contact the Special Child Health Services office in their respective counties. Matheny can also assist. Call 908 234-0011, ext. 751 or 755.
