For the second consecutive year, faculty members of the Bedwell Elementary School in Bernardsville are forming a team, Bedwell Friends, to support Miles for Matheny, Matheny's annual fundraiser and community event being held Sunday, April 18, at Natirar Park in Peapack. Funds raised at the event will help support the Matheny Center of Medicine and Dentistry, which provides medical, dental and therapy care for inpatients and people with disabilities in the community. In 2009, the Bedwell Friends raised $1,200.
This year’s Miles for Matheny will be dedicated to Lu Huggins, one of the event’s founders and a resident of Basking Ridge, who died in August 2009. Activities include the Lu Huggins Wheelchair Walk, a 5K race, several cycling routes and a kids fun run, followed by a celebration picnic at Matheny. Title sponsor is sanofi-aventis, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies whose U.S. corporate headquarters is in Bridgewater.
To support the Bedwell Friends, log onto www.milesformatheny.org, go to ‘search for participant’ and type in ‘Bedwell Friends’. Coordinator of the effort is third grade teacher, Darcey Brooten, who urges “all Bedwell students and families to join the team. Come have fun walking, running or cycling with the Bedwell team.” For more information, email Brooten at dabrooten@shsd.org.
