In what has become an annual tradition, the varsity basketball team from the Delbarton School in Morristown visited students and patients at Matheny. This time, however, their visit was part of a Matheny School assembly. Onstage, the Green Wave players demonstrated their skills and then competed with Matheny students in adaptive basketball contests, created by physical education instructor Jim Hintenach. The idea, explained Hintenach, was to “level the playing field” by adapting the games to Matheny students’ abilities, while at the same time making it more difficult for the high school players. The event was a huge success, and some Matheny students are looking forward to attending a Delbarton game later in the season.
