Miles for Matheny’s New Venue: Natirar

The 13th annual Miles for Matheny, Matheny's annual fundraiser and community event, will be held Sunday, April 18, at a new venue – Natirar Park.  All activities –  the start of cycling routes, the 5K run, kids fun run and the Lu Huggins Wheelchair Walk – will begin in the 411-acre Somerset County Park Commission property, which encompasses Peapack-Gladstone, Far Hills and Bedminster.  The celebration picnic following these activities will continue to be held on the hilltop grounds at Matheny.

Miles for Matheny has grown from a small wheelchair walk and cycling ride in 1998 to an event that attracted some 2,000 participants, volunteers and spectators in 2009.  While this growth has been exciting, Matheny has recognized that the magnitude of the crowds and the temporary road closures have caused some inconveniences to the houses of worship in Peapack.  The Natirar location was considered a perfect alternative, according to Steven Proctor, Matheny president, because, “It is still close to the community that has been so supportive over the years.  Miles for Matheny is as much a community event as it is a fundraiser.  Our goal has always been to bring together the children and adults with disabilities with their able-bodied counterparts in a wonderful and uplifting day enveloped by the strong community spirit of our neighbors.”

Funds raised at Miles for Matheny support the Matheny Center of Medicine and Dentistry, which provides medical, dental and therapy care to Matheny’s inpatients and to people with disabilities in the community.
