Matheny’s rehabilitation technicians are trained and certified in the skills necessary to evaluate and resolve seating needs of people with disabilities by recommending and providing the appropriate equipment. Thanks to a grant from the Merck Company Foundation, Matheny was able to purchase and equip a van, which serves as a mobile workstation stocked with seating evaluation supplies, a variety of wheelchair seating cushions and backs, wheelchair tires, accessories, hardware and tools.
As Matheny's rehab technicians travel to facilities for people with disabilities throughout New Jersey, the “workshop on wheels” enables them to provide emergency services such as repairs on-site, and, if more major repairs are necessary, transport equipment to and from Matheny’s rehab engineering shop quickly and efficiently. It also allows Matheny to bring these services to a greater number of sites and clients. Rehab technicians work closely with therapists and clinicians at the sites visited and share their expertise in durable medical equipment (DME).
Matheny rehab clients include special needs students in several school districts in Bergen, Essex and Union counties as well as organizations serving people with developmental disabilities such as the Woodbridge Developmental Center, Spectrum for Living and the Sussex County Arc (SCARC). Matheny rehab technicians are certified by the National Registry of Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers (NRRTS) and the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA).
