Solutions for Public School Special Needs Students

Matheny's experience as a special education school and hospital for children with medically complex developmental disabilities enables us to apply that expertise to the full spectrum of children with special needs. We are committed to sharing our knowledge with the community to help public school districts better manage the challenges of educating special needs students.

We are now offering our skills and experiences to public school districts on a consultative basis. Matheny therapists and teachers will travel to your school to conduct on-site evaluations and training, or your team can receive this assistance at our main campus in Peapack, NJ. We can assist your school district by providing the following specialized services that will enhance the educational experience of your students:

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication
Speech-language pathologists can assess students’ readiness to learn methods of augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Classroom Technology
Occupational therapists can evaluate students' ability to access technology. Special educators can demonstrate adaptive instructional methods and identify appropriate hardware and software that will enhance students' educational progress.
  • Classroom Consultation and Staff Support
Professional educators can help develop new programs to optimize your districts’ ability to serve students with special needs.
  • Seating and Mobility Evaluation/Specialized Equipment Provider
Physical and occupational therapists, certified as assistive technology practitioners (ATP), can provide comprehensive evaluations and specialized positioning and mobility equipment to meet the needs and goals of the students.
  • Training and Professional Development
Presentations can include hands-on authentic tasks that will enable your staff to: set up a constructivist classroom; integrate technology into the classroom; implement differentiated instruction; maximize test scores (CEUs available).
  • Student/Program Evaluations
As part of dispute resolution, Matheny staff members can review student and school programs to determine optimum student placement.
  • Preschool Services
Occupational, physical and speech therapy can be provided for preschool children, ages 3-5, either in-district or in a nursery school setting.
  • Home-Based Services
The following services are available to students who receive home instruction: academic instruction by a special education teacher, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
